Building Cultural InfrastructureMountain House, CA
The Mountain House community is a new master-planned town located on the western border of San Joaquin County. Population grew from 0 to more than 6,000 new residents within a time span of less than 5 years. The Mountain House Community Services District (MHCSD) was created to serve as the local government agency for the new town.
The rapid pace of development required vigilant attention by the MHCSD staff on the community development issues including overseeing infrastructure construction, providing essential services and maintaining Master Restrictions. While the singular focus assured citizens of a well planned, design and constructed community, the MHCSD wanted to address the “cultural infrastructure” that helps build a strong sense of community.
AIM Consulting worked with MHCSD, private partners and the residents to develop a comprehensive communication and community identification program to establish better communication links between the MHCSD and it residents and among the residents themselves. In addition, to creating strong communication links, the program needed to build a unique town identity which would foster a strong sense of community.
In addition to facilitating quarterly community meeting, AIM Consulting created a Community Newsletter which highlights MHCSD projects and responsibilities and managed the rollout of the first community intranet (www.mymountainhouse.com).
AIM Consulting also worked with Mountain House citizens and private business partners to establish the first Mountain House community events program. The program consisted of events that helped to develop the "cultural infrastructure" of Mountain House. AIM Consulting created a Community Events program featuring a Summer Farmers’ Market, Music in the Park series, Summer Creek Stroll Festival, Kite Festival, MHCSD Fun Run and Walk and a Christmas Concert. AIM Consulting created an overall events budget and sponsorship program which funded the entire program for a year.
In conjunction with the MHCSD, Shea Homes and Kamilos Properties and several other corporate sponsors, AIM Consulting was able to develop a successful program that allowed residents to participate in creating the cultural infrastructure for Mountain House.
